Tunnel Fun

Day 29 - Novi Sad/Belgrade, Serbia:

The rain continued. It was a wet and grey morning still, sadly. Breakfast was followed by a walk to the Petrovaradin Fortress about 15 minutes away across the Danube River. The fortress was high up (as they usually are) and would have offered some great views had it not been so overcast. The moats we crossed to get to the entrance were neat.

We had an awesome tour guide that showed us all around. She took us into the tunnels and showed us all of the amazing defence mechanisms the Austrians had in place at the time to defend the invading Ottoman Empire. Once we resurfaced we took a taxi back into Old Town. We had a lunch at the oldest restaurant in Novi Sad (awful minestrone soup, but lovely Shopska salad) and then I broke off from the group and walked around more.

We left the hotel around 4 to walk back to the bus/train station in the rain, once again. Our bus was a double decker comfy bus that left right on time! I sat by the window and day dreamed for a couple of hours until we arrived in Belgrade. There wasn't much for scenery once again due to the grey weather.
I tried tzatiki chips on the bus for my first time and they were SO good!

At the bus station we split into teams and I led the two ladies from New York in our cab to the hotel. The roads were a bit chaotic due to the Iron Maiden concert happening at the fortress that night. Again, once we were at our hotel we headed off right away for dinner. I attempted to ask to substitute potatoes and onion rings for veggies and rice with my chicken. The meal came out as I had asked, miraculously, but I got charged for all of it in the end. I hate to be picky though so I didn't argue. It took forever to get the bill, so once we did we paid up fast and went home to bed.

Travel days aren't that exciting.
