Wandering Warsaw

Day 19 - Warsaw, Poland:

Today I got up early and headed out to see the sights of Warsaw. It's was scorching hot out.
First I walked through Old Town and found myself a map. From there I went on to find the Warsaw Uprising Monument in Krasinski Square - dedicated to the Uprising of 1944.

Next I walked through New Town and on to the Tomb of the Unknown Solider. On my way there though I stopped to watch a group of people performing some form of Polish break dancing. The others stood around in a circle and sang and clapped. It was like martial arts mixed with break dancing and the point was to not touch each other but get as close as possible. It was really neat.

Then I made my way to the Museum of Culture and Science, not to see the museum but to go up to the viewing terrace and get a view of the city. There was a Red Bull Warsaw concert series going on outside there and so I sat and listened for a bit.

A couple blocks away is Prozna Street where one of the few tenement buildings from the Jewish Ghetto has been preserved. It was very sad and eerie to see. There were pictures hanging in the windows of those that possibly lived there at some point.

Then it was on to the Warsaw Uprising Museum. I really was trying to pack in a lot in one day. I was getting exhausted. I got semi-lost as I was trying to find this place. I decided to walk everywhere all day and so it was hours of walking. I did finally find it, however. It was a very well done museum.

Once done there I took the tram back to Old Town and sat in the square and gorged on a pizza and wine. It was so appetizing. I went back to the hotel after to meet with others. We went out for dinner shortly after and I wasn't hungry of course, but I enjoyed the company!
