View from the Train

Day 28 - Budapest, Hungary/Novi Sad, Serbia:

This morning was a bit of a sleep in since there wasn't much I could fit in before having to go catch the train to Novi Sad. I had some spaghetti and hot dogs as part of my breakfast - if it's edible, then I'm game.

Then it was off for a quick walk done to the park about 20 minutes away. There was a heavy police presence all along the side of the road and I couldn't figure out why. As I got closer to the park I saw a huge stage set up. Apparently the Volt Festival was starting up that evening and MGMT, Arctic Monkeys, and some big DJ's were playing.

But unfortunately, it was time to leave Budapest. The train departed at 1:00 to Novi Sad and we had to catch a train to the train station so we left the hotel at 11:45 am. The train was comfy and I immediately settled in and started watching New Girl. The trip was 7 hours long. It looked very overcast and grey outside the whole time. Lots of farmers fields, bush and trees. Every now and then we would go through a little village. I turned some music on and zoned out and soon enough, I fell asleep. It was then that we hit the Serbian border and it was time for a passport check. That didn't take too long, and off we were again.

We arrived at Novi Sad around 7:30 pm. I had to exchange my Euro into Dinar at the train station due to my incident in Budapest where I accidentally took out way way too much Florint at the ATM. Long story short, I won't be taking money out at the ATM for a while.

We then walked for about 15 minutes in the rain to our hotel. Once settled in we immediately went for a walk around Old Town and went for dinner. We tried the local beer, Jelen. I was cold for the first time in a while so I had a hot peppermint tea as well. Dinner didn't end until around 10:30 pm so we were all keen to get back to our rooms. The rooms were teeny tiny and so my roomie and I had to take turns maneuvering around the room.
