I did something silly and got up at 6 this morning. I was excited to have the shower I didn't get to last night since we were back so late. After had showerd I went downstairs to the supermarket next door and got a banana and some water before heading to breakfast. April and u were the first ones at breakfast since it was only around 7:30. When I was done there, I headed back to the room and finished sending some messages and blogging. April and I did some photo transferring on her lap top as well. I met the group downstairs for 9 am to be on our way. It was a busy morning already and I was falling asleep on my bag while waiting in the lobby!
We got picked up by private bus. The bus ride was about 3 hours and in that time we crossed the border into Bulgaria. We made a stop to get some coffee and use the washroom. I sat in the back and borrowed Karen's pillow to try and catch some Z's but didn't have much luck due to the swirvy driving. The driver then turned on some ABBA and The Beegees and Moya started singing and dancing and wanting the music louder. That was the end of any hope of sleep for me ha. But it was all good and fun.
We arrived into a little town of Veliko Tanovo (I think that's what it was called) and stored our bags at a hotel while we went and grabbed some lunch before catching a 3pm train. For lunch we just went somewhere up the hill a bit and all enjoyed an omelette and a beer. From the hotel we then caught taxis down to the train station. It was a very quiet and randomly placed train station. It looked like it was going to pour on us at any moment, but it never did - just spat a little. While we waited for the train, which was about 10 minutes late, some of us went next door and got an icecream and Andy purchased some train beers.
The train was extremely rocky and I was starting to get a little bit of motion sickness. I had to move seats to face forward. We were only on the train for about an hour and it was time to get off as soon as I was falling asleep of course.
We hurried off the train and we were then lead to a bus waiting outside the train station that was to transfer us to our next train. The bus was completely full once we had all taken our seats. This was all included in the one ticket because apparently the train doesn't go through the mountain so the bus does and then we continue on the train on the other side. I instantly fell asleep on the bus and was out like a light until just before we arrived at the train station an hour-ish later.
The next train was a step up from the last. We had an entire area to ourselves with a little table in between the seats. I got my blogging done and we passed around some peanuts and M & M's, as well as our train beers. Then I put my headphones in and listened to music while watching the world go by outside the window. It was raining most of the journey.
We got into Plovdiv shortly after 8 and struggled a bit trying to get taxis to take us to our hotel. Eventually we made it to the hotel and got settled in. We went next door to Happy Grill for dinner and I had chicken and quinoa and split a yummy beet salad with Andy. It wasn't until 11-ish when we had finished and left. Then it was off to bed! No early wake up tomorrow...yay!
No photos today really since it was just a bunch of time on trains and buses.
