I made it to breakfast for 9:30 this morning and then went back up to shower and get ready to meet the others at 11 to walk over to the Palatinus baths on Margaret Island. It was about an hour walk and the day was already hot. To get there we crossed the bridge and went through a really big and green park. It was busy and a lot of people were out for runs and just hanging out.
There were around 11 different pools - a wave pool, thermal pools, lap pools, and a slide pool. We tried them all out. At the slide pool there were 4 different slides but one had too big of a line up (tube one) and the other two I was too chicken to try - the yellow one went straight down and the orange one shot upwards and then down in a spiral. I stuck to the twisty fun blue one. Karen, Steve, Andy and I had a race in the lap pool and I lost miserably.
We left around 2 and some of us walked back to the hotel via the river front. On the way we walked past the parliament and then came across a memorial (Shoes on the Danube) dedicated to the Jewish people that were forced to take their shoes off and stand there to be executed before falling in the river to be washed away.
From there we walked down to dock 7 over by the Elizabeth bridge to inquire about a boat cruise for the evening. Then we walked to Vaci street and searched for somewhere to have lunch. I had spaghetti bolognese and it was not good. The noodles weren't even normal spaghetti noodles and the sauce was yuck. But oh well! I was fading fast so anything was good at that point.
After that we walked back to our hotel. I was quite excited to try and get a nap in before having our new group meeting at 6:30. We got back around 5 so I quickly got in bed and tried to nap. Then I heard a knock at a door, but I wasn't sure if it was mine or not. Then I heard another, and then pounding and someone yelling "Nancy!". I opened the door to Katherine standing there with a bag of M & Ms (haha), so rather than try and go back to sleep I grabbed my chocolate from the fridge and we sat and chatted and ate chocolate!
The meeting lasted only half an hour and then I went back up and grabbed my stuff to go to the boat cruise. The cruise started at 8:15 so we took a taxi down to the dock. The cruise was really good. They gave you head sets to listen to. It was good because we got to see the buildings before they were lit up and then got to see all the lights turn on when it was dark enough. It was raining a but while we were on the boat, but before we got on the boat it was lightning like crazy, so at least that subsided.
After the boat cruise we took a taxi to the ruins bar to watch the World Cup final! We showed up 15 minutes into the first half. It was packed there so we had to stand to watch. The game wasn't all that eventful but it was a fun atmosphere (minus the smoke). I was rooting for Germany so my team won!
