This morning we caught the 8:30am ferry to Korcula from Dubrovnik. I got up around 6:30 to pack and made a yummy yogurt and muesli breakfast that I ate out on the patio in the morning sun again.
It was a pretty big ferry and many people were out on the deck in their bathing suits tanning. I didn't think ahead enough to do that. We found an air conditioned room to put all our stuff into and then explored the boat a bit. I found a nice spot on deck by the cafe that was in the sun and sat there and enjoyed a cappuccino while I read my book and journaled. The sun was really hot, even at 9am, so I didn't last too long. The air conditioned room was too cold for me though (I just can't win) so I went and found a shady spot on the side of the boat. The boat was a little rocky and I started to feel a little sea sick, oddly enough. I think it was because it was so subtle, unlike on the sailing yacht in Greece.
The ferry ride was about 4 hours long. The views of the Adriatic Sea and mountains were beautiful. We got to Korcula around 12:30 and unfortunately the villas we were supposed to be staying in didn't have working water at the moment, so Brian had to find us last minute accommodation. We were originally supposed to be on the beach and had planned a dinner party potluck style for that evening, but our new accommodation turned out to be quite far away from the old town and city centre, unfortunately. We got settled into the new place and then took vans into old town for a walk.
I was so hungry since I hadn't eaten since my yogurt in the morning and so I was getting cranky. All I wanted to do was have some lunch and then wander on my own - especially since we only had half a day here. Around 4 we all sat down finally for some lunch after Brian gave us a little tour of the place. I had a pizza and it was yum. I was so full after and it was 4:30 by then so I just made that my lunch and dinner and had an apple around 8pm.
After lunch I went my own way and walked along the sea wall down to a point where there was a ton of wind surfers. It was so windy all day that it was perfect conditions for them. There must've been at least 80 of them out on the water.
I was meeting everyone else at 6 by the old town stairs to split a van back to our hotel. Until then I just wandered and eventually ran into Katherine and Karrie and sat with them for a bit. I really felt like I needed alone time though so the afternoon was good for that. Some of us decided not to take a van at the last minute and walked back to the hotel instead. It ended up taking only 20 minutes and was mostly up hill - which felt good.
Once back at the hotel I realized that my new roomie, who was somewhere in old town, had the key and I couldn't get into the room. The hotel didn't have a spare key. I climbed up onto the balcony ledge and got over onto my balcony from someone else's room, but we had locked our balcony door, unfortunately. Luckily, I had mostly everything I needed, but I wanted to put my glasses on for the evening and change into pants and grab a sweater. I had gotten attacked by mosquitoes the night before so I've learned it's best to cover up at night.
We sat in Katherine's room on the balcony and had wine, but sadly the chocolate was in the fridge in my room (oops). Katherine lent me pants and Karen provided a shawl and bug spray, so I was good to go.
At 8:40 we got picked up by a van again to take us back to old town for a Moreska (traditional sword dancing) performance. It was really entertaining and well done. There was a band playing and it opened with some acopello singers. Sparks were flying from when they would hit swords. It ended at 10 and we all piled back into a bus to go home. Six of us managed to cram into the back trunk area to save time waiting for him to come back and get the second round of people - since we had to get to bed to be up for 5am tomorrow morning to catch the ferry! Ugh.
