What time is it?

Day 56 - Budapest to Debrecen, Hungary:

It was a pretty breezy morning. I woke up around 7:30 and had a shower and got all packed up. I went down for breakfast and sat with April and Josephine and took my time eating. Around 9:30 I went for a quick little walk down the road to the North Face store to see if they had a sport watch to buy, but no luck.

We left the hotel at 10:45 and walked to the train station just a few minutes away. It was a beautiful station. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture as I had all my bags on like a little donkey - no free hands. We got settled in on the train and it was nice and air conditioned, which was good since it was already a hot and sweaty day. We got going about 11:20 and just shortly after the air conditioning stopped working (noooooo!). Even worse, the heat started to come on! We were sweating buckets. It was really uncomfortable. Nevertheless, we survived and I got most of my blogging done and listened to some music.

It was a 2 and a half hour train journey and so we got there around 2:45. We hopped on one of the modern looking trams and made our way down the street 4 stops. We got off and turned around and our hotel was right there. It was a very grand looking hotel! It was called the Hotel Aranybika. It was sort of in the main square, right by the beautiful yellow church. There were about 3 beautiful fountains scattered around the square.

We got settled in and took half an hour before meeting downstairs to go for a walk. It's quite a small place so it didn't take that long to see. Steve, Karen, and I split off after and decided to go get ice cream and then check out the mall to look for a watch (it was also air conditioned). The first store we saw when we walked in was a watch store and I found the one - for $38 Canadian Dollars. We did a little but more shopping, and I found an outfit for $12. Steve tried to find a shirt, but didn't succeed.

We made it back to the hotel for 5:30 and I had another quick shower and got ready before going down the hall to Moya and Greg's room for happy hour. At 7 we all made our way to dinner for some traditional food. I had chicken stuffed with ham and cheese, rice and veggies. It was good.

On the walk back I realized I had to spend the rest of my Forint (Hungarian coins) before leaving to Romania tomorrow. I decided to go and grab my iPad and head back around the corner to a cafe and have a glass of wine while finishing my blogging. Then it was bed by 11! Worked out well.
