I got up around 6:30 this morning and didn't want to get out of bed. The bed was so comfortable. I had a nice hot shower and then went down to breakfast. Breakfast didn't start until 7:30 and we had to be packed and downstairs for 8 to hop into taxis and go to the train station. While waiting for the food to come Andy and I took advantage of the ping-pong table in the corner and had a game. I was up for the first half and then he figured out his spin and took the lead to win the game. Breakfast was delicious and I ate it in record time and went and grabbed my stuff from my room and hurried back down.
It was maybe a 10 minute taxi drive to the train station. When we got there we had time to run across the street and grab some snacks for the ride. The station was a bit run down. There weren't any signs indicating anything and the platforms were bumpy as heck. We got on and took our seats. There were only two cars at that point so there wasn't much room. We were on the train for about 4 hours. I did a lot of napping.
Around 1 we got off in Cluj, a university town, to transfer trains. We had a 45 minute lunch break in between so I went across to the supermarket and got two little sandwiches, a snickers and tried to buy a juice but the barcode wouldn't scan and it was the last one, which apparently means you can't have it. A kind lady tried to argue with the cashier for me in their language but with no luck. She told me to just go next door and get it, so I did.
Our next train was quite empty so that was nice. Karen and I played some silly games at the beginning where we held our breath going through the tunnels and such. Andy had a present for me and it turned out to be a nice cold train beer! We enjoyed those and shortly after went back to nap time. When I woke up I listened to music for a bit and before you know it we were there.
The Sighisoara train stop was pretty interesting looking ha. Very basic. We took taxis from there up to the old town where our hotel was. We're right in a beautiful little square. We took 20 minutes to get unpacked and then set out for a walk. It's a pretty little place to see - known for being the birth place of Dracula. Andy pointed out the bakery that we had the pretzel rolls from the other day and April decided to buy one with chocolate in it and we all took a bite. It was soooo delicious so I made a mental note to go back!
From there we went to our dinner spot and I had some yummy goulash and a Greek salad with a local beer. We all walked back after that and since it was a long day of travel I was pretty wiped - even though I was motionless and slept al lot. I went back to my room and had a really lovely bath and took my time getting ready for bed. In bed I read the news for a bit and found out about the Malaysian Airlines passenger plane that had been shot down in Ukraine. The day before we had been right at the Ukraine border. Pretty crazy!
