Dracula

Day 59 - Sighisoara, Romania:

Sleep in day! Yay! I woke up around 8:15 and took my sweet time getting ready to go for breakfast. I found Steve and Karen and breakfast and sat with them. Breakfast was yummy - garlic bread and all.

The three of us went up to the church on the hill afterwards by hiking up through a little stair tunnel. We also went into the old school where Herman Oberth, who worked for and did a lot for NASA attended. He died the year I was born. If was a single room school. We didn't go in the church, but walked through the graveyard behind it. It was a very unkept graveyard with both new and old tombstones. It was beautiful with all the trees around it though. We took a different path down and ended up at the bottom of the tunnel.

From there we walked down past one of the many towers and another church towards the river. Steve and Karen have kindly adopted me as a third-wheel. We found the pretzel roll bakery again and had fresh chocolate pretzel rolls! So delicious. We walked along the river for a bit and then made our way back up towards the Main Street and found ourselves walking farther and farther away and winding through houses. Many of them had grape vines in the yards. We couldn't see any road that lead back around to where we wanted to go so we decided to turn around. We walked into a couple clothes shops and everything seemed a little grubby and second hand.

We walked back up to the bell tower via an untraveled cobblestone alleyway. At the bell tower Karen and I decided to walk up and check out the view. Then I quickly went into the Dracula house and saw where he was born. It wasn't really worth checking out in the end, but oh well.

Our hotel was close enough so we made a pit stop there to drop some stuff off and then went to the square nearby and sat and enjoyed some afternoon white wine and listened to some really good live music in the sun. They were playing the saxophone to new music and it was really good.

Big dark clouds came rolling in however, and forced us inside. We sat there and others from our group trickled in. I did my blogging and Karen did her journaling. It was a really cozy and awesome relaxing afternoon.

Once back in my room I had another awesome bath while I listened to music on my iPad. I took my sweet time. When I got out I re-packed my bag and got all ready for the next day. Then it was off to happy hour at 6 in Steve and Karen's room next door before dinner. We went back to the same place as yesterday. Karen and I took the long way home to enjoy a little walk before heading back to bed!
