This morning I woke up at 5:30 am to Angelina Jolie. I don't remember getting ready, but apparently that happened and I was down at the right departure time. We hopped into cabs to the train station. The train left at 6:50. Kerry, Katherine, Brian and i sat together.
The hotel had packed us bagged lunches since we left before breakfast had started. I dug into my ham and cheese sandwich pretty quickly. Katherine and I finally watched the end of a New Girl episode we had started. The train ride was only 2 and a half hours long, and although I needed sleep, I dudnt manage to get any. Our passports got checked at the border and then some people came on and apparently I was in one of their seats so I moved over and sat with Steve and Karen. I tried to get some sleep but Brian kept talking to me and accidentally elbowed me awake at one point ha.
We arrived in Ljubljana around 9:30 and our hotel rooms weren't ready yet. It was cold and rainy out and we had to walk from the train station to the hotel since the centre of town is pedestrian only. We stored our stuff in a luggage room and got better prepared for the weather before going out to the grocery store to get stuff for lunch. At 11 we met up with a lady and she took us on a walking tour around the city centre. Even with warm clothes, a rain jacket, and an umbrella, I was still freezing the whole time. We saw the St. Nicholas church, the church in the main square with a statue of a poet nearby, the open market (where we tried pickled cabbage and turnip as well as some cabbage juice - it was ok, actually), many other statues, a lock bridge (they're everywhere), the library and more. It's really quite a beautiful place.
Right after the walking tour we got onto a river boat to cruise down the river for a bit. We had already booked it otherwise I think I would've say that one out. It was simply too cold and all I wanted to do was have a hot shower and put some dry clothes on. I stuck it out however, and thankfully there was blankets on the boat. We ate our lunches we had bought earlier on the boat. It lasted an hour and while it would've been lovely in the sunshine, it was a bit dreary in the rain. You couldn't see much besides the riverbank and some embassy buildings.
As soon as the boat ride was over Steve and I rushed to the market and bought wine and chocolate for later that evening. Then it was time for a hot shower! The shower curtain wasn't very long however, so the floor ended up flooding. A common occurrence over here it seems.
Then it was laundry time! The laundry was right in the hotel complex but it was coin laundry. Some of the others from our group were there doing laundry as well. I got there first however, and thank god for that. All in all it took me about 3 hours until my one load of laundry was fully washed and dried. Such a pain, but while I sat there I managed to paint my nails and journal. At 6 pm I went and met Karen and Steve for wine in their room like we had planned. Joanne came a long as well. My laundry still wasn't dry at this point so I just abandoned it in there and came back for it at 7.
Shortly after that the group met for dinner. We went to a really good traditional place across the river. I had mushroom soup that came in a bread bowl, which is unusual for me because I hate mushrooms, but they're in season and i wanted something warm. It was actually so tasty. I also had pork tenderloin that came in a plum sauce and homemade cheese rolls on the side. Then it was desert time! They had Nutella and banan cake. How could I pass that up? It was a delicious meal.
Then it was off to the room and to bed!
I don't have any exciting photos because I couldn't take any in the rain.
