The alarm went off at 5 am and my roomie and I jumped up and got ready in record time. We had to be at the front of the hotel all ready to go at 5:20. We made it with two minutes to spare. A private bus drove us down to the ferry. I took a seat near the back because it was smaller than the one the day before and apparently the back is best for sea sickness.
Nobody else was hungry at 5:30 in the morning, but I was. Luckily I had a banana with me. The ferry was an hour and a half long ride so I finished reading my book and did some blogging before falling asleep for half an hour.
We arrived in Hvar around 7:30 and dropped our bags off to be stored since our rooms weren't ready yet. Then we went for a short zombie like stroll before plopping ourselves at a cafe for a much needed coffee. The breakfast place didn't open until 9 so we waited until then and went over. I had a very salty omelette and another needed coffee.
After breakfast our rooms were ready so we went and got our stuff and Brian showed us to our places. The rooms were apartment like accommodations scattered all around the town. Katherine and Kerry are right below us though. We got settled in and then decided it was beach time!
Some of us walked along the sea wall over to the beach area and scouted out a place with shade and sun. The water was a bit on the cool side, but perfect for a hot day. It's so salty which makes it very easy to just float and relax.
I left the group after a while and went to the market to grab stuff for breakfast for the next two mornings. I was also starving and ready for lunch. I made the 20 minute walk back to the room quickly to change out of my bathing suit and drop my groceries off before walking back to the restaurant area
by the water.
I had a yummy howl of spaghetti bolognese and a Greek salad. It turned out to be huge portions however, so I packed up half for lunch for the next day.
After lunch I went for a nice long walk along the sea wall on the other side that I hadn't explored yet. That side was more of a party atmosphere and had club music playing and tons of bars. Lots of people there that wanted to be seen. Hula beach, it was called.
Before dinner Steve, Karen, Joanne, and I met for wine and chocolate. Croatia has really good white wine we've discovered. We were sitting on the little balcony my room had but it was too hot there so we moved onto the steps of our little cobblestone pathway. It was cute and would have made for a good picture but we didn't think of that at the time.
At 7 the group met to go for Joanne's birthday dinner. We went to this really nice place, but I was still full from lunch and had ate my leftovers so I just had some olives and bread to snack on. Brian had gone and got an icecream cake (Joanne's favourite) to surprise her with. It was really tasty - hazelnut flavour. The sparkler he found to put on it was quite intense as well. It would probably be illegal in Canada ha.
From there, we went to a bar to watch the Brazil vs. Colombia match. The bar served these huge pitchers of whatever cocktail you wanted and then stuffed a ton of straws in them and everyone drank out of the one. We got a mojito one and a piƱa colada one - they were super boozy. Joanne has only been drunk once in college and doesn't drink so it was surprising to see her let loose a little and enjoy some bevvies! We all hit up the dance floor as well. We were the only ones in there at the time so we got the party started. They were playing all oldies classics. The bar got insanely packed around midnight. It was a late, but fun night!
